Teaching Skiing and Snowboarding to Your Child

The image of your child sliding across the snow fields is the ultimate of pleasure and you must be looking for ways to hone the skills of your child in skiing or snowboarding. Teaching any kind of sports to a child requires time and patience and teaching him how to maneuver over snow or water require even more.

If you have already taken efforts to teach other sports to your child, then you must be well aware of your child's ability to grasp new things. You have already watched your child becoming skilled at other types of sports and activities and you already know his tolerance and frustration level for taking hold of new concepts. Whether you should teach him skiing before snowboarding or not is up to you as his parent.

If you want your child to learn skiing at least for a week before learning snowboarding, it may be a good idea to begin with. Your child does not need to be an excellent skier before he can start learning snowboarding. But by learning skiing first, he will come to know about the basic moves used on the snow such as stopping and turning. In this way, he will become comfortable on the ski and learn how to slide across the slopes easily.

Once the child is proficient with skis or he has learned all the basic things about skiing, then it is time to introduce him to a snowboard. Believe it or not, snowboarding is a sport that takes longer to be learned by children even on the easiest slopes. Teaching snowboarding to a child below 6 years of age can be all the more frustrating for him and thus, it is not recommended.

If your child is only 2-3 years old and you want him to have some real fun, then it would be better to enroll him to introductory skiing classes which would be perfect for him. Through these classes, your child will learn the basic concepts about the sport at a very young age when they are more capable of grasping new things quickly and easily.

Excavators, 3D, NASA and Why Should I Care?

Well, because!

There are two definitions for excavator; one is any person engaging in excavation is called an excavator. The second definition of excavator is, of course, the vehicles called excavators, which are sometimes called diggers, trackhoes, fronthoes, and 360-degree excavators or just 360. This is not to be confused with Microsoft's vertical technology and news search engine called Excavator or xcavator, as one has nothing to do with the other.

Here we're talking about heavy duty digging machines, even though several manufacturers like John Deere, offer Compact, Midsize, and Large Excavators ranging from 0-6 metric tons for the compact excavators, 6 to 40 metric tons for the midsize, and 40 to 85 for large John Deere excavators. Additionally there exist mini-excavators, made by another manufacturer, that will fit through a door. In case you're now wondering what 3D and VRML, or actually x3D has to do with excavators, that is something we will be getting to in other articles, for right now you'll just have to trust that there is a fit. For now, however, let's get back to excavators, the digging machines used for, but not limited to: Digging, demolition, minning, river dredging, heavy lifting, and with hydraulic attachments, brush cutting. It is these same hydraulic attachments that have expanded the use of excavators, far beyond their original use of excavation such as the Low-energy Planetary Excavator (LPE) proposed by NASA. The latest paper to be found on this Nasa proposal is for 2006, so the current status can only be guessed at, nevertheless, the concept is certainly intriguing as are the LPE's possible commercial applications. Basically, The LPE would be a general-purpose machine with the ability to mine ice, regolith, and rock; it would also support construction activities. The purpose and application is meant for future manned and unmanned missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond. .Additionally, adaptations could be made for use in extreme-low gravity such as on asteroids. This idea of efficient and reliable an excavator that has usage on differing planetary surfaces and various materials has the goal of enabling exploration and bases from outposts to self-sustaining complexes. The LPE would be able to accommodate the different materials that are encountered on planetary surfaces as the LPE would sense geologic changes and respond to them by using the lowest cutting energy possible.

Moving on the to the possible non-NASA commercial application it can be said that the same qualities of the LPE that apply to space would also attract terrestrial users or said differently, us earth bound creatures. As both business and government markets rapidly expand, so does the need for urban infrastructure. Using NASA's own words on the subject; "Urban construction settings restrict the use of explosives, to minimize damaging vibrations, making mechanical methods attractive. In addition, shallow tunnel construction is rapidly changing from cut-and-cover to wholly underground, because excavations disrupt city traffic. Coupled with increasing population, these factors enhance the market for innovatively flexible systems such as the LPE".

If I could have said it better than NASA did, I would have. But I couldn't, so I didn't. Anyway, there you have it, both the past of excavators and a look at their future with the development of the Low-energy Planetary Excavator

The Pleasure of Driving a Luxury 4WD

The sport utility vehicle (SUV) can best be described as something with the interior space of a station wagon built on a light truck chassis. From utilitarian military beginnings these vehicles have evolved over the years. Originally designed for rural customers requiring off-road 4wd capabilities, the military versions of the Jeep and Land Rover were modified and marketed to the non-military market as early as 1948 with the introduction of the Willys Jeep Wagon. From that point, other manufacturers began producing similar vehicles.

In 1966 Ford created the Bronco. Toyota released the Land Cruiser in 1968, followed by the Chevrolet Blazer in 1969 and the Land Rover Range Rover in 1970. Initially these vehicles were not referred to as a sport utility vehicle or an SUV. That terminology didn't gain popularity until the late 80s.

In 1998, the Lincoln Division of the Ford Motor Company took this vehicle in a new direction by introducing a luxury version dubbed the Navigator. In keeping with the brand's character, the new Navigator was, of course, a luxury version in every aspect. Not wanting to miss out on their share of this new market segment, General Motors released their competitor the following year in the form of the Cadillac Escalade. Both of these vehicles were available with 4wd.

Today's models offer the driver and occupants a pleasurable experience on many levels. First, the engine of most of these vehicles is more than capable and can provide acceleration somewhat similar to that of a sports car. Mated to those engines is a transmission that goes through its gears with a smoothness that makes the change almost imperceptible.

Road noise is so minimal inside the cabin that you can hear a butterfly sneeze, provided your teenagers don't have the surround sound stereo system cranked up too high. And speaking of sounds, due to design and manufacturing processes and the quality materials used in these vehicles, irritating squeaks and rattles are pretty much a thing from days long past.

Nothing is spared when it comes to cabin comfort. The interior quality is luxurious with shape-shifting seats that electrically mold themselves to your body with the touch of a finger. Naturally, these seats are made of the finest leather that covers the plush stuffing designed to keep you comfortable even on those long cross-country vacations.

The comfort of this interior environment is easily controlled. An automatic climate system can be individually adjusted for driver and passenger as well as additional ventilation and controls for passengers located further astern.

If technology is your thing, the new luxury 4x4 SUV has tons of it available. The navigation systems are amazingly accurate and have a very intuitive interface. Most of the luxury models have smartphone integration and voice command features that give the driver a hands-free communication option. And there's even something for the little ones. DVD entertainment centers are common in these units and come with headsets and remote controls.

Most manufacturers offer a 4wd vehicle today. Those brands that are known for their luxury component offer their version of a luxury 4x4. And since no manufacturer wants to miss out on a potential market segment, even Mercedes and BMW, long famous for their models in the luxury and sports car classes, now have their own models available. So, if you like the capabilities or the size, but crave a little of the luxury that is typically associated with sedans or a high-end sports car, consider the luxury 4x4 as a viable option.

Why Your Sales Copy Should Be Written As If It Will Never Be Read At All!

What is enthusiasm?

Well, consulting good ol' Mr. Webster, you could stake a claim that enthusiasm is "an absorbing possession of the mind by an interest, study, or pursuit; [an] ardent interest."

Isn't that a typical Webster's dictionary for you? It gives you the literal meaning of the word, but fails to actually convey its true essence.

When I think of 'enthusiasm', I immediately think of a wise saying that you may have heard:

"The true spirit of enthusiasm can be found in its own last four letters: 'I Am Sold Myself'."

You see, enthusiasm is a lot like passion. One cannot be merely 'excited' about something and at the same time be 'passionate' about it.

Passion involves every aspect of your existence, combined into one big swirl of dedication, love, and appreciation for something or someone.

Before you go any further in your career - or in your life - you must ask yourself the question, "Am I enthusiastic about what I am doing right now?" If you take into consideration the wisdom in the passage above, you may be surprised at your own answer.

To be enthusiastic about something is to be so involved with the idea of its existence, potential, and prospects in the future, that you yourself believe in it whole-heartedly, 110%.

When you write your sales copy, be sure to let your enthusiasm SHINE through your words. Too many people simply state what a product can do for a customer if he or she purchases it.

Instead, try not to word your copy to be read like 'sales material'. In fact, you should aim to craft your copy like it won't be read at all! Your words should seem like YOU YOURSELF are standing in front of your customer, discussing the incredible aspects of your product with them!

For example, you may have a sales pitch like...

"Brand new software eliminates the need for hours and hours of keyword searches!"

...But when you let your enthusiasm into the picture, that stale sale pitch could become...

"What would you pay to spend two more hours with your family TONIGHT, instead of working on the Internet? Help has finally arrived!"

You see how much more intriguing the second headline reads? It doesn't give too much about the product away right off the bat, but it directly represents how your product will HELP YOUR CUSTOMER! Plus, when the line is read, it feels as if you are being SPOKEN TO, not PITCHED TO!

That means more clicks on that link, more people interested in learning about your product, and (if you play the rest of your cards right...) more sales in the end!

Just allow your enthusiasm into your life more often, and I will guarantee that it won't just be your wallet that will benefit!

My View on the Book 'Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry' by Mildred D. Taylor

Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry by: Mildred D. Taylor, is about a young girl named Cassie and her family.  Cassie and her brothers, Stacey, Christopher- John, and Little Man, go to a poor school only for colored students.  Mr Granger wants the Logan's land back because his grandfather had sold it to them because he couldn't afford to keep it. Mr. Morrison, who worked with Papa come to live with the Logan's to help protect them form the men that come out at night and do extreme harassing to the blacks.  Stacey and his good friend TJ, get into a fight over a coat Stacey got from His Uncle Hammer.  TJ gets hooked with the wrong boys, white boys, and ends up getting beat. Cassie has two run-ins with a white girl and stands up to her and she quit bugging her.  Throughout the story the Logan family aren't quite able to overcome the criticism.  But with their efforts they end up burning all their cotton, and TJ has to go to jail or be hung.

I thought that this book was great, I really enjoyed it.  My group and I had to read it for our English class, and I glad I got to read this book.  In my opinion this book could teach young girls to stand up for what they think no matter the consequences, because that's what Cassie did when she was mistreated.  Also,  it taught me more about what it would be like to be black in the middle 1900's.  I really encourage you to read this book, it was very good.

The Introverted Leader's 4 P's Process

Hello

John here again, bringing you yet another tip on shyness.

Jennifer B. Kahnweiler Ph.D has suggested four Ps process: preparation, presence, push and practice in her renowned book titled "The Introverted Leader". I strongly believe that the 4 Ps process is a great tool not only for introverts but also for anyone who like to master their general social skills. Below is the extract version of the 4 Ps process in my own words.

Preparation >> Presence >> Push >> Practice >> (repeat the cycle here)

Preparation: Preparation is the first step in the 4 Ps cycle. This is the step where you prepare yourself with questions and answers so that you are confident to handle any spontaneous situation. Preparation also means that you have a game plan so that you can take time to strategize for any particular social interaction.

Presence: Presence is the second step in the 4 Ps cycle that focus on how you are positioned in the present. Presence shows people that you are engaged and that you are there for them. Be sure to focus on the moment and the people you are with and people will see you as a genuine person.

Push: Push is probably the hardest 4 Ps step and it is about pushing yourself out of comfort zone. This is the step where the skills you learn and adopt in Preparation and Presence steps are being pushed into action! It is also a good idea to get into a habit of stretching yourselves to the limits. The more you push yourself and take risks, the more you become accustomed to taking risks and it will no longer be a new game anymore.

Practice: Practice is the step where you practice new behaviors. As the old saying go, practice makes perfect and the 4 Ps process is no exception.

After you have learned and mastered a social skill, the 4 Ps process are to be repeated for a new set of skills.

I believe that the above 4 Ps process can be used as a tool to overcome shyness. It is a great tool that anyone can use.

You Can Build a Better Ghillie Suit

Not everyone has what it takes to build a ghillie suit. It is not a difficult task, but if you do not have time, patience, and motivation you are going to do a very poor job or abandon the job part way through. For those that find they have those qualities, you can build a better suit than you could buy unless you are willing to lay out some serious coin. If you find a suit for sale as good as one you could build, someone has spent a lot of time and effort building it and will want to be compensated accordingly.

The only way to find out if you have the qualities necessary to build your suit is to jump in and give it a try. You will already know if you have the time, but the other qualities are a bit more elusive. Fortunately, there are kits in abundance available for those wishing to test their mettle for this project. If you can put together a suit you are pleased with from a kit, then you have what it takes and will most likely want to try a more ambitious project than the basic kit provides

Your next effort should have a comfortable yet durable set of clothing for its base and once the netting is attached proceed just as you did with the kit. As you progress, you will most likely have ideas about how to make it better. Don't be squeamish about trying any idea that pops into your head. You're making a ghillie suit, not a tuxedo. You have plenty of room for error and its easy enough to just back up. If you're not bashful you can always ask someone for suggestions when you come to a place that slows you down.

If you get really good at this and can turn a suit out with speed, you will find a market waiting for your finished product. All those folks that tried just like you did but failed will still want a good ghillie suit. Also, you can look at the ready-to-wear suits available on the internet and what they sell for. Can you make as good a suit in a period of time that would sell and leave you a profit? The suits you see on the internet are for the most part shipped from somewhere overseas and shipping that far is not cheap. It seems to me that the shipping would offset the cheap labor.

Not all suits are shipped from other countries. Suits are available constructed on a set of BDUs that are far superior to any of the suits from any other country. If you think you would like to try your hand at building one of these suits, you can buy a set of BDUs in your choice of camo pattern and size with the netting already sewn on. You pick your colors of thread and go to work. You will be surprised at the end result. A better ghillie suit will be the result.
