My View on the Book 'Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry' by Mildred D. Taylor

Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry by: Mildred D. Taylor, is about a young girl named Cassie and her family.  Cassie and her brothers, Stacey, Christopher- John, and Little Man, go to a poor school only for colored students.  Mr Granger wants the Logan's land back because his grandfather had sold it to them because he couldn't afford to keep it. Mr. Morrison, who worked with Papa come to live with the Logan's to help protect them form the men that come out at night and do extreme harassing to the blacks.  Stacey and his good friend TJ, get into a fight over a coat Stacey got from His Uncle Hammer.  TJ gets hooked with the wrong boys, white boys, and ends up getting beat. Cassie has two run-ins with a white girl and stands up to her and she quit bugging her.  Throughout the story the Logan family aren't quite able to overcome the criticism.  But with their efforts they end up burning all their cotton, and TJ has to go to jail or be hung.

I thought that this book was great, I really enjoyed it.  My group and I had to read it for our English class, and I glad I got to read this book.  In my opinion this book could teach young girls to stand up for what they think no matter the consequences, because that's what Cassie did when she was mistreated.  Also,  it taught me more about what it would be like to be black in the middle 1900's.  I really encourage you to read this book, it was very good.
